Thank you for this Marcia. I practice the one carol every Sunday during Advent but as I was reading what you wrote I thought about the fact that we need to practice so we are prepared to receive Christ anew in our lives. That makes singing carols before Christmas part of the preparation. I find it hysterical that the Wall Street Journal had a burning to know about this. Is it really a slow news day? Thank you Marcia for your gifts and wisdom.

I have often said that I wish some of or really great hymn writers of today would write fabulous Advent texts that would fit the meter and style of some of the "beloved" Christmas carol/hymn tunes. One collection of about 10-12 would do it for me (for a beginning at least!) That would give folks the familiar, allow me to do something really interesting with the accompaniments since it's they're not really the traditional carols/hymns, and hopefully, trigger some good pondering during Advent.

So all of you hymn writers on Marcia's lists take this as a HUGE hint.... and post them please! Would love a set for each of the lectionary year texts.....

Debi -- Here is a link to a hymn writer who has done JUST THAT ;) I am featuring her in my Worship Design Studio "More Resources" this season:
